I went to Dr. Talley today for my first consultation about the pain in my TMJ. It causes headaches, jaw clenching, and pain that radiates down my jaw into my back and neck.
Dr. Talley determined that my right TM joint has virtually no cartilage in it, and it basically is bone-on-bone. My bite does not line up properly. He is certain this causes and triggers my headaches and migraines.
He also said that I have the biggest tonsils he has ever seen in his whole career (starting in 1971). This could contribute to my problems, but we are not going to do anything surgical unless we have to.
I had all sorts of fancy tests, pictures, impressions, and was even hooked up to an electronic device that stimulated my jaw muscles. It felt good.
All of my treatment (thus far) will cost me about $4500. I don't know how much (if any) insurance will cover. Probably not much. But it has to be done because I can't live with this anymore. I almost cried today while telling him and his assistant about my pain and how long it has been going on. I held it together.
I can't wait to be pain free.

Poor Mamalish...I am so sorry that you are in such pain. I hope the doctors can relieve it soon. It will definitely be money well spent.
Dr. Talley.....lots of experience, very high priced.
You need the relief of pain. What is his guarantee?
Hugs to you. Can they take the tonsils out and do some other fixin' while they're in there too? I know you already have this in motion but my chiropractor (which was insurance covered) would align my jaw and that helped SO much. It was such a little motion he did that made a big difference. Some days (after much stress and clenching even with a night guard) his adjustment was instant relief.
Well, at least you have an answer and a treatment plan, that is half the battle! I would fight the Insurance tooth and nail. Hang in there Mama :)
Oh MY! I'm glad you're going to get some relief. Constant pain sucks. I have really bad feet and have learned to live with it but I know that's nothing compared to jaw/headache pain. The few migraines I do get are terrible and I really feel for you. I hope it all gets worked out and soon.
I find the dentist terrifing, so I think you're really brave.
There's nothing worse than tooth/mouth pain.
Hang in there.
Holls! I am so sorry. You know I have been there, had to have that stupid surgery...
I noticed Susan left a comment, she is good family friend and hygenist... she can help.
love you.. hope it gets better!
Holly, I am so sorry that you have been living with that kind of pain...I hope that the doc gets it all sorted out for you!
