Friday! Friday! Friday!
There will be mandatory fun at my departmental picnic. By definition, mandatory fun is a celebratory business event that holds no interest for the participants but requires attendance since names are being taken.
Sadly, I do not enjoy these things. Yes, it is a day away from the office. But- it is a day away from the office where I need to be doing important things.
I was picked to lead a project by our officer group. Perhaps my boss knows how to butter me up, but saying that I was picked to lead the project by our officer group really perked me up. I have been having some motivational dysfunction lately, and this is just the thing I need to get me back on top of things.
I found a term for what is really going on and why I was probably picked for this project.
Back-Sourcing: When outsourcers fail to deliver quality, service or cost effectiveness, companies will bring the job back in-house.
I don't really care. I'm just excited to have a fresh project to add to my list of action items (you know that is the fancy term for To Do List).
So, enjoy those 2 new tastee tidbits to add to your buzz whack. If you don't work in a corporate environment, that's cool. Just adapt them to your needs and you are GTG.

Holy shit! You said "action items" in a blog!!! I'm seriously sitting over here laughing my ass off. Ours is "action steps" but I giggle every time I say it because to me it sounds ignorant. But, you are correct, in the corporate world it is a hot buzz word.
Action items. In a blog. Crack me the f-ck up.
LOL My hubby is in the Army and they have "Manditory Fun Days" too. Most of the time they aren't very fun and people show up long enough to be noticed and then sneak away! Have a good time on Friday and good luck with your action step!!
Girls- Here are some more bull shit terms I hear at meetings:
Low Hanging Fruit- This means to do the easy items on your project list first.
Flush it out- I think this means to "flesh" something out, as in to add more content so it is meatier.
Bandwidth (as applied to people)- do we have enough time/energy to devote to this project?
critical path: A list of tasks necessary to complete a project.
I have worked with far too many consultants that talk this shit.
At least on Manditory Fun Day I get to dress caus and head to the lake a few hours early!
LOL...my mother used to have this paper with words in three columns. You could pick any word from each column and match with the next column and it created some kind of corporate-speak. My favorite was "intrinsic value system."
I have motivation dysfunction too. It is such a relief to find that my disorder has a name. *wink*
OMG Holly you are too much! Well have a great Friday anyway....I have wanted to get in touch with you but didn't have your email...but I love reading your blog! I just had a baby a couple weeks ago (you can check her out at www.firstmemories.com/karissa) and so while I'm home recovering I've been a loyal reader! Hit me back when you get a sec and give me your email addy girl!
